FIEA Game Wins Two Awards At GDC’s Intel University Games Showcase

On March 2nd,  FIEA participated in the Intel University Games Showcase at GDC (the Game Developers Conference). It’s a student game contest with almost all of our peer institutions (12 total). CMU, Drexel, Utah, NYU, USC all were there with game teams.

From FIEA, Derek Mattson and Summan Mirza presented The Channeler and did an amazing job. They did a live demo of the game and Summan’s talk was well prepared and fun. Most of the whole team was there in the audience and FIEA had more students in the audience than any school.

After each presentation, judges (from the industry) get to ask questions. When they went to the first judge he said “Uh, wow is all I can say.” Great moment.

The Channeler won two awards (one of only two games to win multiple awards). Most Innovative Award and third place for Best Visual Quality. The Most Innovative was a debut award. FIEA will now receive $7500 in Intel Equipment of our choosing. The team was glowing after the show and into the FIEA party.
